*notices where he's looking* Daddy likes there be lots of portraits around to remind visitors of how important he is. It's an intimidation technique. He's very good at it.
*sits in after her and directs the chauffeur* Well, from what I can gather, it's a little bit out of the way although *dutifully* I'm sure that your presence will light it up.
*blushes* Did my father pay you to say such nice things? It's very sweet but you really needn't worry about appealing to my vanity. One compliment every twenty minutes will suffice.
Excellent. I'll have you trained in no time. *takes a seat* *frowns at the other patrons* I knew he would do this.
*forces a smile again* Have you had much success with the kingdom building? Daddy was very surprised to hear there were Noldor so near Delving. He seemed interested in extracting sharing knowledge. It sounds rather dull to me, I'll admit.
Well, I say you're doing an admirable job of it, then.
*looks at her menu as well* Something white, I think. I really have no preference otherwise. Most of my favorite wines aren't made anymore since the unmaking of Arda. It's a pity.
*sighs* That is a real problem, it's true. So few wines have had the chance to mature, I think. Still, there are a few wines from Falas that aren't half-bad.
*orders the wine* *looks around as the conversation falters again*
*coughs* Your father does employ rather intimidating security men, I must say.
*unfolds and refolds her napkin* *tries not to fidget as, really, it's not becoming*
*smiles when he finally says something* Oh, he's a just a bit overprotective of his kingdom me. Only child and all, you know. They are rather useful for keeping the gaping commoners away.
*quickly* Not that I mind them or anything! *repeats, as she has been trained:* All levels of society are important in order to have a successful civilization.
It is true, of course. *picks up one of his knives and absent-mindedly polishes it with his napkin* All levels of society are important. I'm surprised your father is aware of that.
It's really embarrassing, I must say. Especially when you're trying to enjoy time with someone and strangers keep interrupting. *blushes ever so slightly*
Right! Daddy says there's a place for everyone except the crazy people and the rebels and they should all work together to help pay taxes make a kingdom whole.
*twirls her fork around* Findekáno is an interesting name. Do you prefer it to just Fingon? We're not allowed to speak anything but Sindarin in Delving.
I can understand how that might be a little bit embarrassing. I promise not to hold it against you.
*smiles as the waiter pours the wine* Personally and especially if Quenya is banned in Delving, I prefer Findekáno but I will answer to Fingon, if forced.
Do you like Delving, Princess? Or have you ever been tempted to travel abroad?
*sips from her glass* Findekáno it is then. When no one's around to hear. *smiles winningly*
I do like Delving. Everything's still so new here, but from what I remember it's exactly like home before. I've never traveled farther than the surrounding woods, though. I'd very much like to see new places. Do you travel often?
Not as much as I used to, I'll admit. There seems to be less cause to travel and far more reason to stay at home and beat the paperwork into submission. *laughs softly* Apologies if I sound bitter, Princess. I do think I'd like to travel a bit, though. I have made it as far as Delving, so perhaps that is an achievement?
*smiles* Well then, you must travel more often to chase the bitterness away. No one likes a gloomy king. I'll expect to see more of you in Delving. It is, if the brochures are to be believed, after all, the center of the universe. Hopefully you'll have grand exploits to share.
Ah, yes. Trust Elwë to engender that belief in his subjects. Delving is certainly a fascinating place, by all accounts. Always has been even if it has not always been the most welcoming to my family. That's why, of course, I'm so very honoured that you persuaded allowed me to ask you out tonight.
Times are changing, perhaps? New world, new rules. We should all be one big happy family. I was very pleased when you persistantly suggested we go out. One step closer in closing the gap, don't you think? *smiles* Of course not everything is politics, naturally.
Not everything is politics, indeed, but you would be surprised how some people might view a perfectly innocent dinner. Take the opinions of your father and my sister, for example. I think it's a good opportunity simple to get to know the other side. We do need to learn to live together in peace and harmony and all of that.
*eats slowly and delicately, taking great care to spend most of her time chewing so she can think on what else to say*
*after a while* There's a really lovely Telerin place in town. From what I've been told, it captures the essence of the old Alqualondë quite nicely. *obliviously* Have you ever been to Alqualondë?
*sighs as he stirs sugar into his coffee* I daresay it is all relative. There are many Noldor far more noble than I, and not a few whose actions leave something to be desired.
Perhaps we've been lied to our entire lives. *grins* They're afriad of the power we may have if we could all get along. WITH OUR POWERS UNITED WE ARE CAPTAIN PLANET.
