*after leaving some food for Túrin with the guards (doesn't have the stomach to handle those noises this morning), heads out to tackle her next problem*
*right after taking a few Ibuprofen*
*barges in* Good Morning, Daeron! *winces at the volume of her own voice*
*raises an eyebrow* If I didn't know better, I'd say you weren't happy to see me, Daeron.
*laughs as she makes herself comfortable* But, of course you are, aren't you? I'm actually surprised you haven't come to see me sooner yourself. I'm supposed to be under investigation, aren't I? Well, let's investigate!
*laughs nervously* Oh, I didn't want to bother you with that just yet, my Lady. It's so early in the investigation and all. Maybe we could make an appointment for later in the century day? It would give me time to get all the facts as they stand straight and get none all of my eyewitnesses together. I'd hate to put you out so early in the morning.
*waves her hand about regally* No, no, Daeron. Now is the most convenient time for me. You've had plenty of time to work on the case. I'm sure you can improvise. Besides, my testimony really should be the most important part.
*coughs and straightens up* Of course, you're right, Melian. I've had ample time and I do need your testimony. Yes, let's begin.
*pauses while he rummages around for some paper to doodle record your every word* Is there anything you'd like to say in your own defense before I begin my questioning. *is professional, oh yes*
*tilts her head to the side as if she's thinking* Actually, yes, there is one thing you might like to take into consideration. *looks straight through at you* Beren told me you released him yourself.
*looks at you evenly* Beren told me that you released him from prison. Do you really think I am a fool, Daeron? Did you really think this scheme of yours would work? What, were you trying to get me out of the picture? Why?
Well, uh, of course he would say that! He's lying! Trying to cause trouble for me! Besides, you've just said that you's seen Beren. That just makes you look guiltier. Ha!
You might as well drop it, Daeron. You're the only one trying to cause trouble for people. You have two choices. You can continue with this charade until Thingol comes home, at which time I will tell him exactly what you've been up to (and I do know exactly what you've been up to). Or, alternatively, you can stop pretending now and I will help you out of this hole you've dug yourself into. The choice is yours.
*sits back* *watches you while you puzzle through this* I'd like an iced tea while I wait, please.
*smiles* Yes, yes, I think I can. First, though, you need to send a message to Thingol letting him know I've been cleared of all charges. You have a ways to go to prove you can be trusted. I'll wait.
I would have nothing to gain from telling him. Except, perhaps, being rid of you. I believe I am the trustworthy one here. *smiles a bit* Besides, whether you meant to or not, you did me a service and I feel I owe you.
I will round up some "eyewitnesses" to say they saw an unknown man of approximately Barahir's description enter the prisons and leave again with Beren. We will say they were seen headed towards Ered Luin several days later. You will dispatch a group of Marchwardens in that direction, their search will be fruitless, and eventually hopefully Thingol wil give up. Meanwhile, your secret is safe with me and you stay in his psuedo-confidences. *waves her hand* It's quite easy, really.
