*feels like the brochures for that school said something about dormitory living and being concerned about fever and stiff necks*
*can't for the life of her remember what, though*
Shh, Lúthien, just don't move it. *smooths your hair back off your head* I'm going to go get you some water and talk to the nurse in the infirmary. I'll be right back, honey.
*gets out a thermometer and sticks it under your tongue*
*very gently moves your head to check for pain*
Okay, Lúthien. I'm going to draw some blood and order a lumbar puncture to take some fluid from your spine. The nurse here will help you get ready. In the meantime, I'm going to start you on an IV and get some antibiotics in you until we get the results of the LP. So just sit tight, okay?
I'm fairly certain she has meningitis, but I'm still running the tests to find out what type it is. Getting her here and treatment started was the main thing. If it's bacterial, things can get very serious very quickly.
*reassuringly* Viral meningitis is much more common, though, and less serious.
This had better be important. Every second I talk to you delays my escape from this eruforsaken place with its snow and its windchill and its...um...Noldor.
*moves to sit on your bed and takes you into his arms as best he can without really disturbing you*
*with tears in his eyes* No, sweetheart, I won't go away. You haven't done anything wrong. Not a thing. You're my perfect, precious princess. You have to promise me not to ever ever ever die go away, either, okay? Promise?
