*as much as she has tried, has not been able to ignore the goings-on in Delving* *does not appreciate the suspicious looks she gets when she walks down the street, either*

*finds that she is unable to concentrate on her daily work and, half-way through a mid-morning meeting with the editors of a fashion magazine, decides to adjourn it*

*figures it's time to take some responsibility for what her offspring's offspring have been doing, if only that she can concentrate on her work again*

*racks her brains and realises she only has one real option here*

Elaine! Go to the safe, will you? At the very back, there's white envelope. Bring it to me. Yes. No, I'm not joking. The white envelope.

*dismisses Elaine and stares at the envelope for a while*

*finally manages to open it*

*dials the number printed on the card inside*

*sighs*

*is reclining next to the pool at Ossiriand's premier Nursing Home for the Elderly, whupping Sidney's ass at chess*

*realises his phone is ringing*

*--*

*--*

*looks at the caller I.D.*

*brightly* Red! You come to your senses yet? Gotta nice little duplex down here and the gals have crotcheting club every Thursday.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 11:28:20

*takes a deep breath* *counts to 10* *reminds herself that she does love you, really*

*calmly* I thought you had a whole other wife to bother with your wild ideas of co-habitation, no?
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 11:32:24

*sits back and beckons to one of the nursing staff* Is it too early for a JD & Coke? It's not? You're just the best, Nurse Stafford. Sorry, Sidney, can we pick this up another time? Got one of the wives on the phone.

*turns his attention back to you* What was that, doll? Hey, you know you're always my number one.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 11:33:59

...you know you're always my number one.

*rolls her eyes* *sweetly* Only chronologically, sweetheart. Now, don't you know why I'm calling?
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 11:37:02

*affects surprise* You mean you didn't just call to hear my dulcet tones and to realise what you're missing?

*takes his drink from Nurse Stafford and thanks her by way of a friendly slap on the ass*
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 11:38:52

What am I missing, Finwë? It sounds like your ego is keeping you company rather better than I could.

*realises she's getting side-tracked* Out of interest, have you read the newspapers recently?
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 11:44:27

*easily* Nah, not really. My ego knows the punchlines to all my jokes. It gets pretty lame after a while.

*chuckles* Now, c'mon, Red. What use'd I have for newspapers? They're always full of stuff I'd have to do something about. *sips his drink* Anyway, they don't really like us to have papers here since Edgar kept having a stroke everytime he saw the Page Three Girls.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 11:47:37

My ego knows the punchlines to all my jokes.

And I don't?

*sighs* Well, I'm sorry to break it to you but there is stuff going around the newspapers and all of the news channels that you really do need to do something about.
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 11:50:05

*sucks in a breath* Now, darling, think very carefully about this. Do you really want to disturb my peace and quiet for something that, maybe, one of the kids could take care of?
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 12:03:55

*stiffly* Given that it's your firstborn's children at the root of this, I should think that it is unlikely. The newspapers in Delving all seem to suggest that Elwë wants Fëanáro's sons to hang and Eru knows what that'll do to my business, failing that, he's quite keen to declare war on Hísilómë.
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 12:09:11

*ignores much of what you said, in favour of one thing* Elwë? Elwë? Eru, I haven't seen him since -- well, it's just about been forever! How is he?
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 12:13:22

*is a little baffled* Uhm. He's well except for wanting to wipe out our your descendants, did you pick that up?. Quite charming, actually. Well, to me. Although I haven't seen him since this whole disaster came about.
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 12:18:48

*genially* Do you know? I almost feel as though I should pay old Elwë a visit.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 12:22:31

*takes the phone away from her ear and looks at it for a moment*

*figures that, whatever your motive, getting you to Delving is a definite step in the right direction*

Yes, why don't you? I'm sure he'd like to see you. When can you come?
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 12:24:04

Hmm, I'm not sure. How about the springtime?
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 12:29:46

I was thinking somewhat sooner, Finwë before Delving and its environs have been reduced to a nuclear wasteland. Next week, perhaps?
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 13:03:02

Next week? I don't know about that. It's my turn to host Poker Night.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 13:06:54

*with, perhaps, the tiniest bit of desperation creeping into her voice* But don't you want to see your old friend? I'm sure Elwë would love to see you before he presses the big red button that's going to wipe us all out and I'll bet your new friends wouldn't mind, just this once, if you skipped Poker Night?
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 13:13:33

*chews his lower lip* I don't know. Wilfred does so love Poker Night. It's the only time he's let out of his restraints.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/20/2007 13:45:13

Well, that's lovely, dear, but there'll be other Poker Nights. Just think how pleased Elwë will be to see you I hope.
From: [info] Date: 08/20/2007 13:50:59

*thinks a bit more*

*after a while* OK. OK. I'll come.

*brightly* What's your address?
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/21/2007 05:42:18

My address? What does my address have to do with anything?
From: [info] Date: 08/21/2007 05:55:03

Well, I'm going to need somewhere to stay when I'm in Delving! I can't just land up on Elwë's door with a suitcase now, can I? I've got one of those suitcases on wheels now? Very useful.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/21/2007 06:11:33

That's lovely, Finwë; they're very functional but you're not staying with me. I've only just moved in, the place is a mess, the guest rooms aren't ready --
From: [info] Date: 08/21/2007 06:20:25

*laughs* Guest rooms! Ha! Red, I'd be happy with a couch. It'd be a damn sight closer to your bed than Ossiriand is!
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/21/2007 08:14:57

*tries to ignore the rising sense of panic within her* *knew she shouldn't have called you, knew it!* Now, now, don't be silly. You know how cranky you get if you don't sleep well.
From: [info] Date: 08/21/2007 08:34:24

*genially* Oh, I've been sleeping ever-so-well for years now. A few nights of disturbed sleep shouldn't upset me too much.
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/21/2007 08:37:14

*firmly* No, I won't have it. There's a splendid hotel up the street -- but -- oh. I believe your eldest grandchild used it as the control room for the Incident so, no, you mustn't stay there.

Anyway, Finwë, you pack your suitcase and I'll have one of my girls arrange your travel and accomodation.
From: [info] Date: 08/21/2007 08:41:18

*completely ignores any mention of any so-called "incident"* *is in retirement, Erudamnit!*

Lovely, Red. Lovely. *gets distracted as a nurse approaches him*

Oh, Nurse Reilly. Is it time for my sponge-bath already? Sorry, Red, gonna have to say 'bye. It's just all go-go-go here! Love you, Red, okay, okay, bye!

*presses the 'disconnect' button*
From: [info]broideress Date: 08/21/2007 08:43:06

*stares at her phone and shakes her head at how little you've changed*

*calls Elaine back in to sort out your travel arrangements*

*as a contingency plan, calls her handyman to put a chain on her bedroom door*
